Half Hour Cake


Half Hour Cake

Makes 35-40 Pieces of Cake

2 Cups Flour

2 Cups Sugar

2 Cubes (1 Cup) Butter

4 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 Cup Water

½ Cup Buttermilk (or see *Buttermilk Substitute recipe below)

2 Beaten Eggs

1 tsp Vanilla

½ tsp Baking Soda

2 tsp Cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. Set aside.

In a medium sized sauce pan, combine butter, unsweetened cocoa and water. Melt over medium heat.

Add cocoa mixture to the flour and sugar. Stir until combined.

Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, baking soda and cinnamon. Stir until mixture is smooth.

Pour into greased 10x16 jelly roll pan. You can use the discarded butter wrappers to grease the pan.

Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Frosting

1 Cube (½ Cup) Butter

⅓ Cup Milk

4 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

16 oz (3 Cups) Powdered Sugar, Sifted

Melt in medium sized sauce pan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly so the frosting doesn’t burn.

Pour hot frosting over warm cake.

Allow cake to cool before cutting.

*Buttermilk Substitute

1/2 Cup Milk

1 Tbsp Vinegar

Mix milk and vinegar together and allow to sit for 2 minutes before adding to recipe.
