The Right Backdrop Makes All The Difference

Think Big Craft Blocks

It is amazing how much of a difference the right (or wrong) backdrop can make in showing off your product/project. Some backdrops might make your subject disappear while others provide too much contrast. Some backdrops might be too busy while others might be too bland. Some backdrops might clash with your product while others might be too matchy matchy. Sometimes the backdrop looks great in the SHOTBOX but once you take a picture, it doesn't look as good as you thought. Don't be afraid to mix things up and try different backdrops. It only takes a minute to change your setup and that minute might make all the difference in the world in helping your product to really pop!

In the above photos, I started with a plain, white backdrop. Boring!!! And it looks like my craft blocks are floating in the air! I added a pink, cloth napkin to ground my project and that helped but the white block disappeared into the white background. Next I added a piece of tile for the base and a sheet of blue, striped wallpaper for the background. That was better but the vertical stripes were too busy and the blue didn't provide enough contrast so the white block still blended with the background too much. I shifted to a red backdrop and Wow! That was just the color that I needed! The craft blocks practically leap out of the photo and they are definitely the center of attention! It took me a few minutes of shifting things around and trying different combinations but I got the picture that I wanted and that was well worth the time and effort!
