I was struggling to come up with the subject for a patriotic, 4th of July post when my mom stopped by with a bag full of cherries. She had just been to her neighbor's house and had hand picked these cherries. How lucky I am that she was willing to share them with me! Not only do I get to enjoy these fresh, juicy, sweet cherries but they also inspired me with the above picture. I had been trying to figure out how to use this flag in a post but every attempt was falling short. My husband and I gave this flag to our kids the Christmas of 2001 along with tickets to the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics USA vs China Women's Hockey Game. We waved this flag proudly at the game as the US defeated China. This flag went on to be the official flag of my Bear Scout Troop and dozens of 9 year old boys saluted it as they recited the Pledge of Allegiance. It will now be my Facebook cover photo for the next month. After this, it will sit in it's spot in my office, waiting for it's next duty.
I love the month of July for the chance that we get to celebrate the birth of a nation and to show our love and pride in the United States of America. I also love July for it's summery warm temperatures, long, lazy days, and it's abundant fresh fruits such as these beautiful cherries! I know that the month is going to fly by but for now, I will enjoy the simple pleasures that July has to offer.
