Recycled Zipper Necklace
I was in St. George, Utah last week and I went to the Kayenta Art Village to poke around. I did not expect to buy anything because I have an artist husband and original artwork is usually out of my price range but I admire and appreciate art so I went for the experience (and because the galleries are air conditioned and it was way too hot to be outside!). I enjoyed the photography, various paintings, sculptures and pottery pieces and was wowed by the talent of each artist. The range of styles, medium and subject matter was impressive! As I was strolling through the final gallery, this necklace caught my eye. I'm not usually one to be captivated by jewelry but something about this piece grabbed my attention. As I took a closer look, I discovered that it is made out of recycled zippers! I love that something beautiful came out of a throw away item! I love the simplicity of the circular shape! I love the rustic elegance! I love that it is handmade and unique! I thought about all of these things as I debated whether or not I wanted to splurge on this necklace and then I remembered a quote that I once saw at a boutique..."Regret lasts longer than guilt!" I knew that I would regret it if I did not buy this necklace so I headed straight to the register. As luck would have it, the artist who made this necklace was working that day and I was able to tell her how much I enjoy her work! I wish that I would have gotten her name so that I could promote her work but if you are ever in the Kayenta area, stop by the Juniper Sky Fine Art Gallery and see if you can find the recycled items jewelry artist! I will definitely be going back to see what else she has to offer!
