The Best Nest Learning Kit

My daughter is just finishing up her student teaching at a local elementary school. One of her projects was to create a learning kit based on a children's book. The Best Nest was a favorite when she was younger and with it being springtime, it was the perfect book to build a project around! Pictured above and below, you can see some of the activities that she came up with. Of course there is the book to read. The eggs have different word strips with some of the key words from the story written on them. You could also put questions about the story in the eggs. The feathers are used as pointers to track the words as you read. There is a spinning wheel to change the words by changing a couple of letters within them. There are BINGO cards, maps and common words worksheets. So many fun ways to enhance and challenge the reading experience of young reader! Whether you are a teacher, a parent, a nanny, a tutor or somehow involved in the life of a child, these ideas are not only great learning tools but they are also a lot of fun!

Below you can see the setup inside the box. I used some wooden floor planks cut down to the appropriate size for the base and a piece of pink, textured wallpaper for the backdrop. The base and the backdrop are intended to fade into the background and they do just that. The various elements of the Learning Kit are definitely the focus.
